Sermon: Fr. Christopher – February 11, 2018

Father Christopher Hofer, Rector at The Church of St. Jude (Episcopal) in Wantagh, NY explains that all of us have secrets that we do not wish to share with others. We often keep these secrets so that we don’t reveal a good surprise that is about to take place. These are secrets worth keeping. Jesus took Peter, James and John up on a high mountain. All at once, Moses and Elijah appeared and spoke with Jesus. Suddenly, Jesus was transfigured and showed the glory of God. However, he instructed his three Disciples not to tell anybody about what they had just witnessed until after he has risen from the dead. This is considered to be a Messianic secret. Considering the state of the world at that time, there were many reasons why Jesus made this request. This begs the question, “Why are we keeping the secret about the good news of God in Christ,” today? Therefore, it is incumbent upon us to spread the word to those we know and those we meet about how good we feel when we experience the wonders of God.
