In 1985, a St. Jude parishioner submitted one of the St. Jude “Church Mice” to a Family Circle Magazine contest. “Plum Pudding Christmas Mouse” received 1st Prize! The mouse was published in the magazine with the sidebar “Country Christmas Ornament: Our country Christmas mouse knows that it’s the simple spirit of sharing that makes the holidays so special. Her gift to you is a tasty steamed pudding (actually an acorn with painted-on garnish). She can be made in less than two hours from scraps of felt, fabric, ribbon, and lace.” From that point on, the St. Jude Church Mice became a beloved tradition with new costumes and themes being designed every year.
